Illustration

Drawing is one of those skills that I believe everyone should hone and practice because it is the most basic way to connect your eye and your style. Similarly to how we write, how we develop our lines develops a creative sense and language that builds over time. Not only that. When the computer fails, or maybe one is stranded on a desert island. Drawing by hand will always have a tactility that can be so direct and fundamental in bringing the story to from the mind to the page.

In a faraway past life I worked as a textile print illustrator, creating the repeats to be printed on the raw fabric. Oftentimes creating work in tiny 5″ x 5″ squares that could be repeated to infinity. This work was tedious and unexciting to me, but this experience also taught me how to create focus through shape and colour, even in a sea of infinite repetition.
